Law & Government +Live

New this summer: Law & Government +Live. This supplemental add-on includes structured online sessions on select weekdays. These events, spanning a variety of exciting law and government related subjects, will include:

  • Guest speakers: Subject-matter experts and industry professionals.
  • Course mentors: Students and alumni who know the field.
  • Engaging activities: Engage with classmates from around the world.

+Live Session Details

  • +Live sessions are offered four days a week (weekdays only) during your qualifying course dates. Each session lasts 1 hour.
  • You'll gain access to your complete schedule details two weeks prior to your start date via email and once you log into our online learning management system (called Canvas) on your start date. You can also find the schedule here.
  • You'll also have access to an orientation session which is designed to introduce you to the course, Canvas, and your +Live sessions.

Sample +Live Session Topics

The Outer Space Treaty of 1967 is about to expire. In this session, you'll take on the role of a diplomat from a pre-selected country and draft an updated treaty. With your fellow classmates/diplomats, you'll decide ownership of the moon and more importantly, what ownership means on the international stage.


Take on the role of a defense attorney tasked to represent one of three survivors from the famous case: The Queen vs. Dudley & Stephens. Explore what it takes to represent someone who admits guilt in killing another human. Why did they do it; what is their justification; and who would you represent? Discover what justice and fairness looks like when humans are pushed to the extreme.


How is governmental change achieved in non-democratic countries? What are the ways promoters of democracy drive toward it in their state? You'll hear from Adam Hassan as he discusses his first-hand experience with the Arab Spring, specifically the Libyan Revolution and its aftermath both domestically and abroad.


Jury trials are a foundational process in law and government, but how do they work? How does your role in the courtroom make an impact on your approach? Meet Jonathan Skinner, Esquire, a state prosecutor with over 10 years of experience, as he discusses the inner workings of jury trials through the lens of felony cases.


Meet Tavonia Davis, a Lobbyist at Verizon with over 12 years of governmental and public policy experience, as she walks you through how policy, advocacy, and law intersect in her work. Discover how she engages with elected officials, non-profit organizations, and lawyers to advance policy initiatives.


You and your peers have crashed on an island with no hope of rescue. The next step is to create a sustainable government for your new home. Explore the different governmental systems as you determine the best fit for your group. Will you choose to be ruled by one? A few? Or all?
