What is the Georgetown University Pre-College Online Program?

The Georgetown University Pre-College Online Program gives high school students the opportunity to explore their intellectual interests and get a head start on their future before they ever set foot on a college campus. Students choose from two types of courses: enrichment courses and college credit courses.

Enrichment courses are 1-, 2-, or 4-week courses that give you a deep dive into a subject area. Complete a course and you’ll earn a certificate of completion from Georgetown University — something meaningful to add to your college applications or résumé. College credit courses, offered in select subjects, are 6-, 8-, or 12-week courses that go deeper into the material, require more coursework, and upon successful completion, earn you college credit on a Georgetown University transcript.

You can take one course or several, and mix enrichment and college credit courses based on your interests and goals. No matter which courses you choose, you’ll get video lessons designed by Georgetown faculty, personalized support from a mentor or teaching assistant, and a final capstone project.

Who Is This Program For?

This program is designed for high school students between the ages of 13 and older who want to explore a subject they’re passionate about, get a preview of college life, or strengthen their college applications. It’s a great fit if you:

  • Want to discover your interests before committing to a college major
  • Want to earn college credit in select subjects on a Georgetown transcript before you graduate high school
  • Want to add a Georgetown certificate or transcript to your college application or résumé
  • Need a flexible, self-paced program that works around school, sports, and other commitments

What's the Difference Between Our College Credit and Enrichment Courses?

While both options include dynamic video lessons by renowned Georgetown faculty and access to support, the college credit courses contain additional coursework hours and allow you to earn college credit upon completion. We recommend selecting either the college credit or the enrichment option as some content overlaps between the two modalities.

How Does the Program Work?

Courses are structured around dynamic video lessons designed by Georgetown University faculty who bring real academic expertise and on-campus experience to every module. You can watch lessons at any time and work through assignments at your own pace, entirely online.

Every course includes a final capstone project, where you’ll demonstrate what you’ve learned through a presentation or project in a format of your choosing. If you’re enrolled in an enrichment course, you’ll be paired with a mentor who provides guidance and feedback throughout. College credit students work with a teaching assistant (TA) who supports you on assignments and helps you get the most out of the material.

There are no required live sessions, so no matter where you are in the world or how busy your schedule is, you can participate on your own terms.

What Subjects Can Students Study?

Courses span five subject areas — Business, Communications, Law and Government, Medicine, and STEM — so whether you're drawn to the courtroom, the operating room, the world of AI and cybersecurity, or somewhere in between, there's a course designed for you. You can take one course or several, mixing enrichment and college credit courses based on your goals. All subjects are available as enrichment courses; subjects marked with an asterisk are also available for college credit.

Yes. You’re encouraged to take multiple courses to explore different subject areas. The flexible, self-paced format makes it easy to take more than one course without conflicting with school, extracurriculars, or other commitments. Note that some content overlaps between enrichment and college credit versions of the same subject, so we recommend choosing one or the other for each topic.

College credit earned through the program appears on an official Georgetown University transcript. College credit is available for select subjects only. Whether another college or university chooses to accept that credit is up to that institution, so we encourage students to check directly with their prospective school.
